Leisure Facilities
The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast at Ambleside is the perfect base from which to explore the many beautiful areas of The Lake District – whether on foot or on 2 wheels!
Walking
We have our very own walking guide which is available from reception with a collection of Classic Lake District walks with directions from our very own front door! From the gentle amble round Rydal and Grasmere to the day long hike round Fairfield Horseshoe our book will guide you from your very first step to your very last!
When you arrive back safely we have a drying room for your boots and jackets if required.
Mountain Biking
We can offer your bikes Bed and Breakfast accommodation for the night too!! We will keep your mountain bike in our secure shed which we lock every night. If you are unsure where to head to we have some route maps which are graded “doddle, dodgy or deadly” and we also keep a good puncture repair kit on site. Finally, as well as use of the drying room for shoes and jackets, we have a hose pipe which you can use on your bike to clean off any mud.
Those Rainy Days
For those days when you don't want to venture out in the Lake District rain guests at The Rothay Garth Bed and Breakfast have use of the Langdale Hotel and Country Club. Tickets can be purchased at reception for the club which is a very pleasant 10 minute drive away up the Langdale Valley where you will find a fully equipped exercise studio, a 20m swimming pool, a steam room, a spa bath, a sanarium and, finally, for those brave enough to try it - a deluge shower!
Touring the Area
As well as a walking book we also offer a “Days Out by Car” book, again with directions from our car park in Ambleside to such popular destinations as Muncaster Castle, Tarn Hows and the lost village of Mardale. We even tell you where to stock up on fuel and where to find the toilets!!
